14 YA Books We Can't Wait to Read in 2019

2019 is upon us and guys... there are SO MANY good books coming out this year. Here are the 14 books we can't wait to read this year:

King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo
Release Date: January 29, 2019
The first in a new duology by Leigh Bardugo, Nikolai lovers rejoice because her newest book from the Grishaverse is all about fan-favorite Niko. And, OMG with that cover? We'd pick this book up no matter what it was about, tbh.

On the Come Up by Angie Thomas
Release Date: February 5, 2019
Angie Thomas's sophomore release about a 16-year-old who aspires to be a hip-hop megastar is at the top of our list. Being almost two years after the release of The Hate U Give, we're excited for another hit from Queen Angie.

Watch Us Rise by Renee Watson

Two girls rise up against the treatment of young women at their New York high school by starting a Women's Rights Club, which is soon targeted by trolls and is shut down by school administrators after trouble begins to brew. An Affair of Poisons by Addie Thorley
Release Date: February 26, 2019
This historical fantasy by debut author Addie Thorley gives us an alternate history of a murder scandal during reign of King Louis XIV in 1700's France. How can we say no to that premise??! Check out her Pinterest board for her Affair of Poisons aesthetic!

The Fever King by Victoria Lee
Release Date: March 1, 2019
The first book in Victoria King's Feverwake series combines science fiction and fantasy in a future United States. Current, real-world issues play a role in the story, which we love in a dystopian-esque novel.  Early reviews of The Fever King are phenomenal and we're totally in it for the magic this book is sure to deliver.

Shout by Laurie Halse Anderson

Twenty years after the release of Speak, Laurie Halse Anderson gives us Shout: a poetic memoir, rally cry, and call to action about sexual assault.

Internment by Samira Ahmed

An emotional and heart-breaking second novel from Samira Ahmed (who also wrote the fantastic Love, Hate, and Other Filters) depicts a near future in which 17-year old Layla and her parents are sent to an interment camp for Muslim American citizens. If this book doesn't make you want to rise up and fight for injustice the same way The Hate U Give does, I don't know what will.
