Looking for something to do this summer?

SUMMER IS HEEEEERRE! There's so much going on this summer. Lots of stuff to do and lots of prizes we want to give away. If you need to get out of the horrendous summer heat and want to spend some time in the AC, come hang out with us!

TEEN SUMMER RAFFLE
How does the Teen Summer Raffle work, you ask?

Step 1: Read a book.
Step 2: Fill out a raffle slip. We just need your contact info and what prize you'd like to get if you're picked as a winner. (You can get these by stopping in the teen area at either library location, or by clicking here.)
Step 3: Return the raffle slip to either library location (or click "submit" if you're a bigger fan of doing it online).
Step 4: There are no other steps. That's literally all you have to do.

This year, we're giving away gift card prizes to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Target, Red Robin, and Regal Cinema. You can submit one raffle slip for every book you read this summer, so the more you read the more chances you have to win. You can start submitting your entries on June 3.

SUMMER READING BINGO
Summer Reading Bingo is new this year and highly experimental. But it's also very easy. Stop at the Palmer Branch and pick up a bingo card. Cross off the activities on the card as you complete them. When you get bingo, bring your card back to the Palmer Branch for a prize. BOOM. Done.

For this summer, the Summer Reading Bingo is only available at the Palmer Branch. But if you guys decide you like it, we'll widen it to both branches and do a little more with it next year. Like I said, highly experimental.

TEEN CHAT & CHEW
Teen Chat & Chew is just what it says... a pizza club with a book addiction. We order tons of pizza, hang out, stuff our faces, and talk about books we've read, loved, and hated on a specific theme. All meetings are at the Palmer Branch.

Upcoming dates:
Saturday, June 29 @ 2:00pm

Saturday, July 27 @ 2:00pm

"I'M NOT SAYING IT WAS ALIENS... BUT IT WAS ALIENS"
BRACKET CHALLENGE
Tell us which mystery or conspiracy theory you think was DEFINITELY aliens. We'll narrow it down every week until we're left with one extraterrestrial winner. Vote each week for your picks in the teen areas at either library location, or cast your vote here.

Don't forget... whenever you vote you'll make this guy proud. 👇

WE'RE SO EXCITED THAT WE CAN SHOW MOVIES NOW! No, seriously guys. WE'RE. SO. EXCITED. Bring some movie snacks to munch on during the movie and hang out with some friends in the air conditioning. Movies will be shown at both library locations.

YA FEST 2019
Even though it's not officially part of the Summer Reading Program, we'd be doing you a serious disservice if we didn't include YA Fest 2019 in with our summer events. This year's YA Fest takes place on August 10, 2019 at the Palmer Branch. We're hosting 26 YA authors, including Gretchen McNeil, Cinda Williams Chima, and Dana Mele, plus local authors Jennifer Gilmore and Devon Taylor! We'll have book signings, discussion panels, raffles, and more!

Head to the YA Fest website for the full list of attending authors and information about what's going down on August 10. You can also sign up for the YA Fest newsletter, too!

Remember: All this stuff ends on Friday, August 9. That's the last day to get turn in your raffle slips, bingo cards, claim prizes, etc. The raffle winners will be notified the final weekend of the program.

And because our theme for this summer is space, I feel compelled to share with you this booklist of space operas and space-themed books. Go nuts, my young friends.

Teen Chat & Chew: New dates announced!

Do you love to chat?

Do you also love to chew?
(That sounds weird. Let me rephrase...)

Do you love to EAT?

Then you'll want to be at Teen Chat & Chew.

Bullying sucks.

Bullying is NOT cool. It's not funny. It doesn't help you be more popular. It's cruel and cowardly.

I think we were all made achingly aware of this after Netflix started streaming Thirteen Reasons Why and gave millions more people a look into the life of fictional Hannah Baker, who died by suicide. Because of a few rumors, Hannah suddenly found herself bullied, harassed, and preyed upon by her classmates. Whether you read the book or watched the show, Hannah's story helped us understand the snowball effect that bullying can have on someone, and how tragic it can be.

And we want it to stop.

To raise awareness and to inform parents and teens about bullying and cyberbullying, Sgt. Timothy Ruoff from the Palmer Police Department will give a 30-minute talk and Q&A with teens and parents about cyberbullying on Thursday, July 27 at 6:00pm

Following Sgt. Ruoff's discussion, library staff members Ashley and Katie will host a book talk of Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher at 6:30pm. This will NOT be a discussion comparing the show to the book, or how certain things in the show were depicted. This is a straight up book talk of Jay Asher's 2007 book and the effects of bullying.

All teens who participate in both Sgt. Ruoff's talk and the book discussion will earn one hour of community service time. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. You can even RSVP on Facebook.

Got questions? Contact Katie Cardell (katiec@eastonpl.org) at the Palmer Library. Copies of Thirteen Reasons Why are available through the library in print or as an ebook.

Emoji Book Title Challenge!

We all 💙 emojis, amirite?

Put all that emoji knowledge to good use by doing the Emoji Book Title Challenge!

Every week of the Summer Reading Program, we'll post a book title written in emojis on all our social media sites (IG, FB, Twitter... the big three, basically) and in the YA area of the Palmer Branch. Write down what you think the title is and drop it in the raffle box. Anyone with a correct answer will be entered into a raffle to win a copy of that book!

This may or may not be one of the weekly challenges 😏

(Hint: Try looking up the keywords from the clue in the library's catalog. It's not considered cheating!)

The Challenge starts Monday, June 12! Each week's challenge will go out every Monday. Good luck!
